July 3-5, 2004 – Apostle Islands

Posted by Karen A. Brown

Today we planned to spend the day sailing up to the Apostle’s. We got a bit of a late start having some diesel problems on the way down river. The weatherman predicted rain and thunderstorms and the lake was an oily sheen. No wind, no movement, the flies just lay on the surface and waited for us to pass before boarding us. We ended up motoring the entire way.

Once we reached the islands, we were somewhat surprised by the number of boats despite the poor weather. But I suppose if you charter a boat, or plan a vacation, you take it.

With north winds, our options for anchoring were limited. The spit off York was full, Oak was a string of masts. We decided to check out the shoal on Raspberry Island and are pleased to find nice sand holding ground.
