Return to WhimSea's Home Port.
Posted by Karen A. Brown We planned three days in the islands but were thwarted by the weather. Wind confounded us by blowing (quite a bit) out of the Northeast. The exact direction we would need to go. We did, however, enjoy a good yacht club party – two I guess since it was breakfast and dinner. We have also been able to get a lot of work done around the boat. Sunday was foggy and oddly windy. What a weird combination. We’re hoping for a better day tomorrow. Memorial Day saw us at sail on the lake! It was foggy but we still went out. The lake was swelling a bit and the gulls were appearing and disappearing form sight, but that ultimately made for an extremely quiet sail. So quiet that we were surprised when the silence was broken by a call from the marina. There was bad weather heading out way and we should head back. Luckily we were already on the way. This hail was followed by calls from Royal and Mystic Star with the same news. Both were at the dock to see us in as well. It’s nice to have help like that and know people care (and worry!). Posted by Karen A. Brown Before leaving the previous weekend we managed to get the sails on. It made for a late Sunday night, but we were certainly glad this weekend since we were able to get out for a cruise both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday we cruised down to six miles outside of Duluth before coming about and returning to the marina. We were under just the main and flying at hull speed! We hit 8.2 knots under a gust and tipped at a 30 degree heel. It was amazing! I think we left a little before 11:00 and were back, docked and eating lunch at Culvers by 2:00 that afternoon. Sunday we went out as well. We had both the main and the genny out (which rolled out and back as sweet as kiss your hand). We had some good sailing and sunshine both though it was a bit chilly. Heading back the wind failed us but not before we were within a couple of miles of the entry to the marina. Posted by Karen A. Brown There's a gale expected by the weatherman this weekend and he delivered. Rain was delivered as well. We met the folks on Dreamweaver, John and Beth, and their two kids and learned of their upcoming adventure to explore the lake. Oh how we envy them!
Posted by Karen A. Brown Our first trip up to the boat for the season. WhimSea’s been in the water since April but we haven’t been able to get up until now. The weather, unfortunately, does not cooperate with us. We can’t even get the sails bent on. Perhaps next week.
